How to make your own e-book widget.
First thing is first. You need covers for your books on your sd card. You can use the original artwork that came with the book, or you can visit a couple of websites dedicated to this sort of thing. Another alternative is firing up your image editor of choice (I use Photoshop and Illustrator) and make some of your own. Which is fun in and of itself, if you ask me.
Once you have your covers on your sd card, go to the Play Store and download Desktop Visualizer(DV) and Aldiko Book Reader. (This effect is more than likely possible with other readers as well.)
Now just add a widget to your homescreen in the usual fashion, selecting a vertical 1x3 widget. (try other sizes or "re-sizing" if it doesn't look right.) Tap the widget frame bringing you to the DV page. For the icon, you guessed it, choose a cover from your sd card by tapping the icon button and selecting "image file".
For the action, select "other" from the list. This brings up another list, select your reader of choice and then select your book. Back at the DV page, under the label, hit the clear button. Now scroll down and select touch effect, then press none. (or use a color provided, if you like.) Finally, tap "ok" and you're good to go.
Remember, the size of the widget depends on your launchers grid. (unless you use ss launcher or the like)
Re-size and even edit them if needed. Send me an email if have any troubles and I will help out wherever possible. Like, if you need some editing done or have a request for a cover.
I'll post a video walkthrough soon for all of you visual learners....is that even a word?
